Carbon-Carbon Composite, Heat-Treatment Rack

Carbon/Carbon composite material is made of high-strength carbon fiber and a carbon matrix. Known internationally as "black gold", it is called the "third-generation material" after stone tools and metals. Composed almost entirely of elemental carbon, it withstands extremely high temperatures and heating rates, and offers high strength, low density, low thermal-expansion coefficient, corrosion resistance, thermal-shock resistance, good wear resistance and chemical stability – a new type of ultra-high-temperature composite.

The biggest advantage of carbon-carbon heat-treatment rack products is their light weight (1.7 g/cm³) and high strength (compressive strength 100 MPa, flexural strength 130 MPa), plus good elasticity. When used as backing plates or support plates, they reduce the weight of structural components, allow thinner designs and a higher loading capacity, while delivering superior strength at high temperature without deformation – greatly improving yield and reducing energy and power consumption. They also cut the manual handling time between furnace cycles and increase furnace utilization. The main drawback is that the current price is high, still far above that of existing heat-treatment furnace fittings.

Carbon-carbon heat-treatment racks are assembled from carbon-carbon composite plates. With a density only one-fifth that of steel, C/C trays are much easier to handle. At 1200°C its strength is about 10 times that of steel, with no thermal deformation. Thanks to these excellent properties, C/C composite plates improve process capability and reduce operating costs.
